Join us in partnership with Surrey Hills National Landscape for a stunning day out in the rolling countryside of Box Hill, just 20 miles from London.

This 9-mile circular route is part of the North Downs Way, taking us through ancient woodlands, steep climbs, open gallops, and iconic viewpoints. Box Hill is famous for its sweeping panoramas, rare habitats, and unique biodiversity, and you’ll feel transported far from the city while still being a train ride from central London.

Whether you’re a returning hiker or joining us for the first time, this is a great opportunity to explore the Surrey Hills, connect with nature, and walk as part of a powerful community.

This hike is part of our 5-year anniversary series, celebrating five years since Muslim Hikers began as an Instagram page and grew into a global movement for representation, visibility, and joy in the outdoors.

THE WALK

Date: Saturday 27th September 2025

Meet Time: 10:00 | Hike Start: 11:00

Meeting Point: Ryka’s Café, Old London Rd, Dorking RH5 6BY(Toilets and refreshments available for purchase)

Route Distance: 9 miles (14.5km)

Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours

Grading: Moderate–Challenging – includes several steep climbs, descents, and steps

TRAVEL OPTIONS

By Train:

• Box Hill & Westhumble Station (direct from London)
• Dorking Station (mainline) with 25-minute walk to Ryka’s or local 465 bus to Burford Bridge

By Car:

• Parking available at Dorking Station (limited spaces)
• Nearest hotel: Burford Bridge Hotel, located at the foot of Box Hill (with parking for guests)

DAY SCHEDULE

• 10:00 – Meet at Box Hill & Westhumble Station / Ryka’s Café
• 11:00 – Hike begins
• 13:30 – Picnic lunch break at Mickleham Gallops (No toilets at this point)
• 14:30 – Continue hike
• 16:30 – Reach Box Hill viewpoint (Toilets and café available)
• • Optional Games Trail experience (from the Nature Calling programme)
• 17:30 – Descend back to Ryka’s
• 18:00 – Hike ends

KIT LIST

Hiking boots or sturdy trainers, waterproof jacket & trousers, layered clothing, minimum 1.5L water, packed lunch, and snacks. A full kit list will be emailed before the event.

OTHER NOTES

• Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable
• Minimum age: 16
• Photography and filming will be in place. Please inform us at registration if you do not wish to be featured
• No transport provided, but car sharing is encouraged via the event WhatsApp group
• Please bring your own lunch, plenty of water, and suitable hiking gear
