Muslim Hikers Complete First-Ever Everest Basecamp Expedition

Muslim Hikers has successfully completed its first-ever Everest Basecamp (EBC) expedition, marking a historic milestone for the community as all 33 participants safely reached Everest Basecamp (5,364m).

The expedition brought together hikers primarily from the UK, alongside participants travelling from the United States, Australia, and the Middle East, reflecting the growing global reach of the Muslim Hikers movement. The group also included Ryan, a non-Muslim participant, underscoring the inclusive ethos at the heart of the organisation.

A Journey of Endurance, Community and Purpose

Over the course of the trek, the team navigated long mountain days, sub-zero temperatures, and the physical demands of high altitude, including hiking on Basecamp day in -20°C conditions.

Despite the challenges, the group moved steadily and safely through the Khumbu Valley, supported by experienced local Sherpas and the Muslim Hikers leadership team. From pre-dawn headtorch starts to moments of reflection at the Everest Memorial, the expedition became as much a mental and emotional journey as a physical one.

All 33 participants successfully reached Everest Basecamp — an achievement that highlights the power of preparation, patience, and collective support.

Fundraising Impact: £50,000 Raised for Charity Right

In addition to the physical challenge, several participants took part through a charity fundraising option, raising an incredible £50,000 for Charity Right UK.

The funds will support school meal programmes for vulnerable children, including emergency food provision for children in Gaza, Palestine, adding a powerful layer of purpose to the expedition.

Reflecting on the journey, Mubarak Sheikh shared:

“Everest Basecamp pushed me in ways I never expected, physically, mentally, emotionally. But the support of the group and the environment Muslim Hikers created made it feel possible. This wasn’t just a trek, it was a life-changing experience.”

Muslim Hikers founder Haroon Mota, who completed Everest Basecamp for the third time, reflected on the significance of the expedition:

Looking Ahead: Everest Basecamp 2026 Nearly Sold Out

Following the success of the 2025 expedition, Muslim Hikers’ Everest Basecamp 2026 trek is already almost sold out, with only a handful of spaces remaining.

The organisation continues to expand its programme of UK hikes, international expeditions, and residential events, creating pathways for people from diverse backgrounds to access adventure, challenge themselves, and build lasting community.
